Bead & Silver Jewelry

Handcrafted Nepali Silver — Turquoise, Coral, and Centuries of Tradition

Nepali silver jewelry combines Tibetan, Newari, and Indian design influences into a distinctive style recognized and loved worldwide. Artisans in Patan and Thamel work sterling silver (92.5% pure) into rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and pendants, often set with semi-precious stones that hold deep cultural significance — turquoise for sky and protection, coral for life force and vitality, lapis lazuli for wisdom, and amber for healing. Techniques include filigree (twisting fine silver wire into intricate patterns), repoussé (hammering designs from the reverse), granulation (soldering tiny silver balls into patterns), and stone setting. Each piece is made by hand, making every item slightly unique.

How It's Made

Understanding the production process helps you appreciate the craftsmanship and communicate the product story to your customers.

The silversmith melts sterling silver ingots and rolls or draws the metal into sheets and wire. For filigree work, fine wire is hand-twisted and shaped into patterns, then soldered to a base. For repoussé, the silver sheet is placed on a pitch block and designs are hammered from the back. Stones are cut and polished separately, then set into bezels (metal frames) by carefully pushing the silver around the stone. Each completed piece is cleaned in an acid bath to remove oxidation, polished to a bright finish (or deliberately oxidized for an antique look), and quality-checked for stone security, clasp function, and finish consistency.

Bead & Silver Jewelry — Frequently Asked Questions

Is the silver genuine sterling silver?
Yes, all our silver jewelry is made from 925 sterling silver (92.5% pure silver). Each piece is hallmarked with the 925 stamp. We can provide silver purity test certificates for wholesale orders upon request. We also offer brass and copper alternatives for budget-conscious product lines.
Are the stones natural or synthetic?
We use genuine semi-precious stones — natural turquoise, coral, lapis lazuli, amethyst, garnet, and moonstone. Stone sourcing is transparent and documented. For very large orders where natural stone supply is a constraint, we will discuss alternatives with you in advance. We never substitute synthetic stones without buyer approval.
Can I create my own jewelry designs?
Yes, we work with buyers to produce custom designs. You can provide sketches, CAD files, or reference photos, and our silversmiths will create samples for approval before production. Custom design development typically takes 1-2 weeks for sampling, with production lead time of 4-6 weeks after approval.
Do you offer nickel-free jewelry for sensitive skin?
Yes, our sterling silver is naturally low in nickel content, and we offer certified nickel-free options that comply with EU REACH regulations. This is especially important for earrings and body jewelry. Nickel-free certification documentation is available for wholesale buyers.
What packaging options are available?
Standard packaging includes individual poly bags with silver anti-tarnish strips. Upgraded options include branded jewelry boxes, velvet pouches, display cards with your branding, and retail-ready packaging with barcodes. We can work with your packaging designs for private label orders.
