Buy directly from Kathmandu

Every piece here is photographed individually in the workshop where it was made. Most are one of a kind, so what you see is the exact object that arrives. Message us about anything that catches your eye — we confirm it is still with the maker, then send a secure payment link. Shipped worldwide by DHL Express with duties prepaid.

Why you can trust this

  • You pay Stripe or PayPal, never us directly

The payment link goes to their page, not ours. We never see your card number, and both give you the right to dispute the charge with your bank. We will never ask for a bank transfer.

  • A reply within 12 hours

Every message, every day. Kathmandu is UTC+5:45, so an evening message in Europe or America is answered the next morning.

  • Photographed again before it ships

We send you images of the actual piece as it is packed. If those do not match the listing, you have a claim and we have a problem.

  • Duty and tax prepaid

Calculated and paid before the parcel leaves Kathmandu. Nothing is owed to the courier when it arrives.

  • Damaged in transit? Full refund

Including shipping, on a photograph. Fourteen days to change your mind besides, under UK consumer law.

We would rather show you none than write our own. This shop is new, and the first reviews will appear here when the first buyers write them — under their names, unedited.

Before you buy

Will I have to pay customs or import duty when it arrives?
No. Duties and taxes are included in the price you pay us, and parcels ship on Delivered Duty Paid terms, so the courier should never ask you for anything on delivery. If one does bill you, send us the invoice and we reimburse it.
Is the piece I receive the exact one in the photographs?
Yes. Most of what we sell is one of a kind — a single thangka, a single hand-hammered bowl — and the photographs are of that specific object, not a stock image of the range. Before it ships we photograph it again once packed and send you those images.
How long will delivery take?
We buy the piece from the workshop after you order and inspect it, which takes 1 to 3 working days, then DHL Express takes 4 to 10 days depending on your country. You get a tracking number the moment it leaves Kathmandu.
How do I know it is genuine and not a factory copy?
We buy in person from the workshops in Kathmandu Valley where the pieces are made, and we tell you where each one came from. Hand-work leaves evidence — overlapping hammer arcs on a bowl, slight irregularity in a handloom weave, brush texture in a thangka. We photograph those marks deliberately rather than hiding them.
Can I return it if I change my mind?
If you are in the UK or the EU, yes — you have 14 days from delivery to cancel, and you pay the return postage. Elsewhere we do not offer change-of-mind returns, because returning a parcel to Nepal usually costs more than the piece. Ask us for extra photographs or a video before you buy; we would rather answer questions than disappoint you.
What if it arrives damaged?
Email us within 14 days with photographs of the piece and the packaging and we refund you in full, including shipping, wherever you are. You do not need to send it back — return freight to Nepal costs more than the refund.
