We make the introduction to an established export house, and stay available if anything stalls.

How this works

We buy in Kathmandu Valley every month, in person, from the workshops that make the things we sell. That is the whole of our advantage here: we know who is genuinely good at what, because we handle their work and pay for it ourselves. An introduction from us carries weight for the same reason.

  1. You tell us the brief — category, quantity, target price, timeline.
  2. We match you to the workshop or export house that actually fits it, rather than pushing everything to one supplier.
  3. You deal with them directly on samples, pricing and production. We stay available if anything stalls.

It costs you nothing. We are paid a referral commission by the exporter when an order completes, which is why we would rather match you correctly than quickly.

Before you send us a brief

    The payment link goes to their page, not ours. We never see your card number, and both give you the right to dispute the charge with your bank. We will never ask for a bank transfer.

  • A reply within 12 hours

    Every message, every day. Kathmandu is UTC+5:45, so an evening message in Europe or America is answered the next morning.

  • Photographed again before it ships

    We send you images of the actual piece as it is packed. If those do not match the listing, you have a claim and we have a problem.

  • Duty and tax prepaid

    Calculated and paid before the parcel leaves Kathmandu. Nothing is owed to the courier when it arrives.

  • Damaged in transit? Full refund

    Including shipping, on a photograph. Fourteen days to change your mind besides, under UK consumer law.

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for wholesale?
MOQs vary by category and are set by the workshop, not by us. As a guide: felt products 50-500 pieces per design (rugs and large items 10-50, felt balls 100-500), pashmina 50 pieces per colour, lokta paper 50-100 pieces for finished products, jewelry 50 pieces per design, singing bowls 20 pieces per size, wooden carvings 10-20 pieces, thangka 5-10 pieces per design, and metal statues 5-10 pieces for standard designs. Single-piece custom commissions are quoted individually. Nepali MOQs are lower than Chinese factory MOQs because production is workshop-based rather than assembly-line, and most workshops will run a sample quantity before a bulk commitment.
How do you ship internationally?
We ship worldwide via air freight (DHL, FedEx) for samples and urgent orders, and via sea freight for large wholesale shipments. All products are professionally packed with appropriate protection. We handle export documentation including customs invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and any product-specific certificates (fumigation for wood, silver hallmarking, etc.).
What are the customs duties on Nepali handicrafts?
It depends on the destination and the HS code. Nepal is a Least Developed Country, so most handicrafts enter the EU duty-free under the Everything But Arms scheme, provided a certificate of origin accompanies the shipment. US preference programmes for Nepali goods have changed repeatedly and lapse between renewals, so we will not tell a US buyer their goods arrive duty-free — have your customs broker confirm the current treatment against the specific HS code before you budget. Correct classification and a certificate of origin are what actually determine what you pay.
How do you ensure product quality?
Quality is arranged per order rather than through a standing programme. We agree the specification with you in writing before production starts, and we send pre-shipment photographs of the actual goods for your approval before anything is packed. For a first order we strongly recommend samples, because handmade work varies between workshops and photographs of someone else's piece are not a specification. If you would rather not rely on our word, independent inspection agencies operate in Kathmandu and we will work with the inspector you appoint, at your cost.
Are your products fairly traded?
We buy face to face from the workshops themselves and pay the asking price on the spot, in cash, without haggling the maker down — which is the part of fair trade that actually reaches the person who did the work. No exporter, no agent, no consolidator taking a cut in between. We can tell you which workshop a piece came from and what we paid for it, which is a harder thing to say than holding a certificate.
Can I order product samples before placing a bulk order?
Absolutely. We encourage all new buyers to order samples first. Sample orders are priced at retail rates and shipped via express courier. Sample costs can be credited against your first wholesale order. Typical sample delivery takes 5-10 business days depending on your location.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept bank wire transfer (T/T), PayPal, and Western Union. For wholesale orders, standard terms are 50% advance payment with the balance due before shipment. For established clients, we offer 30/70 or LC (Letter of Credit) terms. All payments are in US dollars.
What is the typical lead time from order to delivery?
Production time varies by category: lokta paper, jewelry and singing bowls 2-4 weeks; pashmina 3-6 weeks; felt 3-8 weeks; wooden crafts 3-6 weeks; thangka 4-12 weeks; metal statues 4-8 weeks, and 8-16 weeks for large or custom commissions. Shipping is on top of that: 3-7 business days by air to the USA and Europe, or 30-50 days by sea via an Indian seaport. Plan a first order on the long end of the range.
